Gynecological Day Hospitalization

About the unit
Our Gynecological Day Hospitalization unit performs short surgical procedures that don’t require an overnight stay. Once the procedure is complete, you’ll move to recovery, and in most cases you’ll be discharged the same day.
The unit offers a wide range of procedures, all carried out by physicians who specialize in this field. The type of anesthesia depends on the procedure — general, local, regional, or none at all. Procedures done without anesthesia or under local anesthesia usually take place in the procedure room; our secretarial team will let you know exactly where to go.
If your procedure takes place in an operating room, you’ll meet the admitting nurse, your surgeon, and the anesthesiologist beforehand for a medical review and a full explanation of what to expect. Afterward, you’ll spend one to two hours in recovery before being discharged.
Procedures performed in the unit
Dilation & Curettage (D&C)
Hysteroscopy
A procedure in which a thin camera is passed through the cervix into the uterine cavity, giving a clear video view of the inside of the uterus. It allows the physician to see the uterine lining, the openings of the fallopian tubes, and the cervical canal. Sterile water is gently introduced into the cavity during the procedure to improve access and visibility. A hysteroscopy can be used to:
- Remove polyps from the uterine cavity or cervix
- Remove retained placental tissue
- Remove an intrauterine device (IUD)
- Remove a uterine septum
- Release intrauterine adhesions
- Take a biopsy from the uterine cavity
- Investigate infertility or recurrent miscarriage
- Remove submucosal fibroids from the uterus
Hysteroscopy can be performed either while you’re awake or under full anesthesia. Your medical team will recommend the most suitable option based on the size of the findings, how long the procedure is expected to take, and other medical considerations.
