Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynecological condition that affects women during their reproductive years. It’s more common than many people realize, affecting around 1 in 10 women of reproductive age, and it’s one of the possible causes of chronic pelvic pain.
It happens when cells similar to those lining the uterus grow outside it. These cells respond to the body’s hormonal changes, and over time this sets off inflammation. The result can be pain, urinary symptoms, and even fertility problems.
Diagnosing endometriosis takes real expertise and a multidisciplinary approach, and that’s exactly what our clinic team specializes in. Diagnosis is made with a thorough pelvic ultrasound and, when needed, an MRI. There are several ways to treat the condition, some with medication and some with surgery. When surgery is the right option, our Gynecology Division at the Mayanei Hayeshua Women’s Hospital performs minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedures to treat the various forms of endometriosis.
